100m sprint

One of the most well-known Olympic events is the 100m run.

The length of the grass is around 50m, so here is your chance to see how quickly you can run 100m to the wall and back!

Let’s begin!

Test your 100m time

  • Start at the sign and run as fast as you can to the wall (making sure to keep a safe distance from others).
  • Then run back towards the sign as quickly as possible.
  • Ask a friend or family member to time you!
  • Did you know the Men’s world record is 9.58 seconds (Usain Bolt in 2009) and the Women’s world record is 10.49 seconds (Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1998)!

Compare your scores

  • Compare you scores to how quickly different animals can run 100m!

Compare your scores to the animals and athletes! Which animal could you run faster than?

Active Learning Firefighter Challenge

Here’s your firefighter challenge!

One person will act as the fire chief and will be shouting instructions. Everyone will be jogging around until they are given an instruction:
“Ladder” = high knees on spot while pretending to use your arms to climb a ladder.
“Hose” = everyone get in a line and pretend you are holding a water hose.
“Siren” = spin on the spot while giving your best siren sounds.
“999” = make 9 long strides in a row.
“Rescue” = find another person, link arms, and run to the wall and back.
“Fire!” = ‘drop and roll’ on the ground. If you don’t want to get on the floor, do one spin.

Switch out the fire chief once they’ve shouted out 10 instructions.
